Fan Reviews

***** GOOD, RARE HALL & OATES.  I bought the original "Philadelphia Years" recently but this disc had all those songs plus some extras I never had on CD before like "The Princess & The Soldier" by Daryl Hall w/The Cellar Door.  Great stuff for the Hall & Oates fan who must have everything...Reviewer:  Tom Mourgos - CD Baby

*****The CD was excellent and has such rare songs as The Princess & The Soldier, Lonely Girl, Vicky, Vicky.  It also has some unreleased songs from Gulliver such as Enough, Everybody's Excited and My Old Faithful.  This collector's edition gives you 38 songs and it gives you the early years of Hall & Oates, Daryl Hall and Gulliver.

*** Finally got it all together.  This 2-CD set finally brings together all of the various recordings that Hall and Oates did (separately, together, and Hall with the group, Gulliver) with producer John Madara before they started recording with Atlantic Records circa 1972.

I can remember my father buying a record called Past Times Behind that had about 11 tunes on it. They were somewhat primitively recorded, and the guys were going through a hippy nature-boy period (as were many others circa 1971), but it was still great "Hall & Oates music". Those tunes are all here and are indeed the best of the 38 recordings.  But if you are a Hall & Oates fan, you want to hear it all and it is only here.

Daryl Hall was in a group called Gulliver in the late Sixties, and their recordings take up CD 2. CD 1 is comprised of solo Hall recordings, and stuff he did with Oates.

I was impressed with the remastered sound of these CDs. I had bought a Past Times Behind CD back around 1990 and it sounded awful and I threw it away. But this remastering job restores the warmth of sound present on the LP.

So this is a must-have for the Hall & Oates fan. But for anyone else, most of the songs here are simply not very good. And the recording quality was pretty poor. Hence the 3-star rating. - Reviewer:  J.C. Clark - Amazon
